When we are struggling and need support, what we need most is to be listened to.
Listening is often the only thing needed to help someone.
Many times we want to help,
we want to support
those who are going through a bad time,
we want them to have a sense of direction,
to see a different outcome,
to have hope,
to do things better,
to become aware of their failures,
to think things through,
to improve the things
we see that need to be improved....
But when it comes down to it,
all these good intentions
usually end up as little more than wasted saliva,
because it is not the right time,
because we are imposing it,
because we are not robots
and we need our time.
In general, at least many times,
the best thing to do is to listen,
to speak less and pay more attention,
to allow them to speak to us,
to let them unburden themselves,
to help them to express themselves,
to bring out what they have inside
and to free themselves
from what burdens them so much.
Listening is more powerful
than what we often believe,
it solves more than a million words.
